Moths - The Ear Moth

First seen on Wednesday 25th August 2021 at Cragside

Like most moths, the Ear Moth (Amphipoea oculea) has been named after its physical appearance. However, this one is a bit tenuous - the 'ear' is the bright spot on each wing, which needs a bit of imagination to see as an ear on its side. It tends to favour damp habitats - this one was found beside Nelly Moss Lake.
