Grasshoppers - The Meadow Grasshopper

First seen on Tuesday 10th August 2021 at Cragside

As its name suggests, they are found in the grassy meadows. Not easy to spot unless they hop. When you so see them they are very colourful. Meadow grasshoppers have relatively short wings, whereas common grasshopper's wings extend beyond the abdomen. People with better hearing than me will of course be able to hear them - they have short bursts of 'sewing machine' like chirps. They are generally green, and the lines on their shoulders are straight, and not differently coloured.
