Moths - The Silver-Y Moth

First seen on Tuesday 10th August 2021 at Cragside

The Silver-Y moth is quite a common moth. It flies in the day-time and can normally be found in meadows and hedgerows. Although similar in size to a butterfly, it can easily be recognised as a moth by its very rapid wing beat. The Silver-Y moth gets its name from the pale 'Y' shaped mark on its forewing. Like many moths they like hiding deep inside foliage - in this case, heather.
