Damselflies - The Beautiful Demoiselle

First seen on Saturday 1st June 2019 at Croome

There are two types of Demoiselle, the Banded Demoiselle and the Beautiful Demoiselle. This is the female and there isn't a huge difference between the Banded and Beautiful females - Banded have green wings and Beautiful have golden brown wings. The Banded males have a large dark oval band on their blue wings. Both like to be near running water, so it's not often you will see one at Croome. The Beautiful Demoiselle prefers faster water so they are even less common at Croome. I've only ever seen Beautiful Demoiselles in the sheltered belt at the south end of the estate. There is a small stream running through the woods, which may be why.
