Finches and Buntings - The Bullfinch

First seen on Friday 11th November 2016 at Croome

The bullfinch is not a common bird at Croome, although they can be spotted now and again in the woodland areas around the main lake and at the edges of the estate. I sometimes see even them by the shop. The male is a bright orangy-pink colour, but the female is a more subtle beige colour. You can compare the two below. These were a pair in a tree together.


 

The female (show in the close-up photos) is not so easy to spot as the brightly coloured male. They love eating seeds and flower buds from trees as you can see in the photo below.
