Wasps - The Common Wasp

First seen on Wednesday 1st August 2018 at Croome

This is probably a Common Wasp, although the markings seem to indicate it could be a German wasp, which is actually very similar. The best way to distinguish is the face (which I didn't know at the time of photographing...) The one here was found destroying the wooden bridge over the north end of the lake. These wasps live in colonies, in underground nests. The nest is built from chewed up wood pulp, which is possibly what this one is gathering.
