Dragonflies - The Emperor Dragonfly

First seen on Friday 1st July 2016 at Croome

The largest of the dragonflies, these spend most of their time patrolling the waters, flying up and down. Occasionally they will land on a broad leaf - The male below was in the middle of the river not far the main house. They can be seen from June to August on warm sunny days. Note that the male's body is green and the tail is blue. There is another blue and green dragonfly (the Southern Hawker) that is blue and green, but its colours are mixed throughout its body.

The female is all-over green and yellow. The one shown below is egg laying, and she was on the river, not far from the Chinese Bridge.
