Pigeons and Pheasants - The Feral Pigeon

First seen on Saturday 22nd April 2017 at Croome

Feral Pigeons are the ones you will see in and around town centres, so are not normally seen at Croome. They are descendants of the rock dove, but you will only see wild rock doves in the north west of Scotland and Ireland. In fact these ones are probable domestic racing pigeons out for a bit of exercise. They are similar to stock doves (common at Croome), but have two distinct shades of grey, and stripes on their wings. Everyday town centre ones can have all sorts of colour variations, including areas of brown, or an overall dark grey colour. The ones shown here are similar to rock doves. You will also see the eye is different to both stock doves and wood pigeons - feral pigeons have orange eyes.
