Bugs - The Forest Bug

First seen on Tuesday 18th September 2018 at Croome

The Forest Bug is probably one of the most distinctive of the Shieldbugs, with its bright yellow and blue fringe (although this one is a bit old and dark) and pale spot on its back. It feeds on a variety of deciduous trees, including Oak, Alder, Hazel, Apple and Cherry which is probably why its called the Forest Bug. It is also known as the Red-legged Sheildbug.

They are widespread, and common in wooded areas, orchards, and gardens, so perfect for Croome (although it took me several years to find one!) You can see its wing case unfolded in the second photo.
