Spiders - The Four-spot Orbweb

First seen on Monday 10th September 2018 at Croome

The Four-spot Orb-web spider gets its name from the four large white spots on its very large abdomen. Unfortunately this one didn't turn to the right angle to show all four - you can see two spots in the second photo. She has just captured an unfortunate grasshopper and you can see her wrapping it up in webbing from her spinnerets. All a bit gruesome. These spiders live in undisturbed vegetation such as rushes and sedges. They build large webs up to 40cm across.
