Spiders - The Furrow Spider

First seen on Sunday 3rd June 2018 at Croome

The Furrow Spider (Larinioides cornutus) is an Orb-web Spider, which means it spins circular webs to trap their prey. They come in two forms, a black and white form and an orange-brown form, both of which are shown here. Although the colours are different, the pattern in their abdomen is the same. They build their webs near water, or in damp meadows. They are quite large, with a body size between 5 and 10mm.

The one below (the orange form) has trapped a crane fly, and is busy wrapping it up for later.
