Ducks, Grebes and Coots - The Gadwall

First seen on Thursday 18th February 2016 at Croome

The Gadwall is a very pretty duck, and can be found on both the lake and river. There is usually just one pair there (and they are often asleep). In the photograph of the sleeping pair you can see how much smaller they are compared to the mallards on the bank behind. On first glance, they are rather plain, but on closer inspection the detail in their feathers is quite intricate and beautiful.
