Moths - The Garden Grass-veneer

First seen on Wednesday 27th June 2018 at Croome

Grass Moths are a family of similar species of micro-moths. These small moths look interesting when they fly, but when they land they tend to fold their wings up and vanish. If you do find them after they have landed, they all tend to be very similar in appearance, so it's very difficult to distinguish between them! This is a Garden Grass-veneer (Chrysoteuchia culmella). Usually found in grass, this one conveniently landed on a leaf near the main lake. Its main distinguishing feature is the angled lines on its wings.
