Normally Green Woodpeckers are a much more difficult bird to see than the Great-spotted Woodpecker. However, Green woodpeckers are actually quite common at Croome. They can normally be seen in the trees around the lake, but they also like rummaging around on the grass and you can come across them in the meadows and lawns, as in the photograph below. They are very timid, and once they see you, they will fly off.

Unlike great-spotted woodpeckers, green woodpeckers do not frequent the bird feeders. They do however have a very distinctive call (kew-kew-kew) that announces their presence.
