Larks, Pipits and Wagtails - The Grey Wagtail

First seen on Thursday 13th October 2016 at Croome

The Grey Wagtail is usually found beside the lake, although it does depend on the level of the water. They tend to patrol the edge of the water looking for food. They don't stay still for too long, and frequently fly from one side of the lake to the other. Easy to spot when they are wagging their tails, but don't confuse the grey wagtail with the pied wagtail. Pied wagtails are black and white (and a few shades of grey) but the grey wagtail (confusingly) has a vivid yellow underside. There is also a yellow wagtail to add to the confusion, but they are all over yellow (I've only seen these once at Croome).
