Geese and Swans - The Greylag Goose

First seen on Monday 6th March 2017 at Croome

Greylag geese at Croome are not as common, or in as large numbers as Canada geese. They can be seen on the lake, river, or grazing in the meadows. They can be identified by their all-over brown colour, bright white tails and large bright orange bills.

Occasionally you may spot an 'odd' goose. More often than not it will turn out to be an escaped domestic goose. In the case of the one on the right in the lower picture, it's a hybrid - a cross between a Greylag and a Swan Goose. This one was resident at Croome for many weeks, and seem to 'attach' itself to a family of Greylags.
