Birds of Prey - The Hobby

First seen on Saturday 30th July 2016 at Croome

These birds are nowhere near as easy to see as buzzards and kestrels at Croome. They are summer visitors, and can occasionally be seen flying over the river at the south and of the parkland. There are many dragonflies along the river, and these form part of the hobby's diet.

They look similar to a peregrine falcon, but unlike the peregrine, they have brown legs. Having said that, at the speed they fly you are unlikely to be able to see such detail. If you are lucky enough to see one 'hawking' over the river (performing aerial acrobatics, hunting for dragonflies), it can only be a hobby.
