Finches and Buntings - The House Sparrow

First seen on Monday 13th February 2017 at Croome

Another very familiar visitor to most garden feeders. However, at Croome I rarely see a sparrow on the feeders (once so far). In fact I rarely see many sparrows at Croome. The best place to spot them is near the main house, either hiding in the trees, or often looking around the house martin nests (probably looking for insects).

They sometimes appear in the trees around the main reception building (as in two the photos below).


 

The male is a contrasting chestnut and grey. The female (shown below) is all-over brown and she was on the portico at the rear of the house.
