Corvids - The Jay

First seen on Sunday 28th January 2018 at Croome

The Jay is the most colourful member of the corvid family. It is mostly pink in colour, but has a flash of vivid blue on its wings and a big black moustache. They are quite elusive shy birds, very difficult to see at Croome. They hide well in trees, but can occasionally be found feeding on the ground, like this one rummaging around in the fallen crab apples. They can often be heard before they are seen, as they make a harsh screech - often when other birds are arguing with them.
