Woodpeckers, Kingfisher and Cuckoo - The Kingfisher

First seen on Thursday 3rd March 2016 at Croome

The Kingfisher is one of those birds you will need a lot of luck to see, but when you do, you are rewarded with a beautifully colourful bird. The best place I've found to see a kingfisher at Croome is the main lake, especially at the south end, but you could also see them anywhere along the river.

You may see them when they are perched on a very sheltered branch. This one was on the short stretch of the river just to the south of the main lake. It is a male, as the female has orange in the lower bill.

You may also see them fly past with a flash of vibrant colour, as in the photo below - look at the bright blue.
