Waders - The Lapwing

First seen on Sunday 7th January 2018 at Croome

Lapwings are usually found grazing in grassy fields, so it would be quite possible to see them grazing in the meadows to the south of the estate, along with the flocks of geese. I haven't seen them there yet though. These birds photographed were from two flocks flying over the house and around the estate. In flight, Lapwings have a characteristic black and white pattern, with wings that widen out with rounded edges. Their call is a distinct "pee-wit" giving them their alternate name.
