Mammals - The Mole

First seen on Thursday 17th January 2019 at Croome

Ok, I'll admit this photo isn't a mole, its a molehill. Croome is blessed (or cursed) with a plentiful number of molehills, especially in the more ornate areas such as lawns and paths. You can probably go your entire life never having seen a mole (I have so far). They spend almost their entire life underground. They are around 15cm long and covered in black velvety fur (not that you're likely to see one...)

The closest I've ever been to seeing a mole is this video. The mole is probably not far away underground, but the movement is just it clearing the soil from its tunnel up onto the surface. When you see this movement, you hope to see the mole pop its head out and have a look around. Extremely unlikely - but it didn't stop me watching for quite some time (it didn't surface by the way...)
