Moths - The Mother Shipton

First seen on Saturday 1st June 2019 at Croome

This has to be my favourite moth! Mother Shipton was a prophetess who died in 1561. The Mother Shipton moth is named after her, as the markings on each wing clearly show an old hag looking inward, with a large nose, pointy chin and a beady eye. The markings on moths can look random, but it's amazing how the markings are actually unique and very consistent for each species. They fly in May to July.
