Wasps - The Black Slip Wasp

First seen on Tuesday 12th September 2017 at Croome

Pimpla Rufipes is one of a vast number (tens of thousands) of species of Ichneumon Wasps. These wasps are parasitic and prey on caterpillars of butterflies and moths. Obviously with so many varieties, identification is not easy, so my labels for these Ichneumon Wasps are just 'best guess'. Apechthis compunctor is another very similar species. This one is mainly black, with bright orange legs. It is also known as a Black Slip Wasp.
