Not as common as many butterflies, the Small Copper can be identified by its vivid orange colouration, and it is quite small, similar in size to the blue butterflies. They can be seen mid to late summer, in the meadows. The best places are along the river, and by the Park Seat.

Interestingly, the small copper has one drab underwing and one pretty one, as you can see from the photo below.

Male and female are very similar. This is the female below, the male is smaller and has more pointed wings. The one at the bottom is a male. Small Coppers do also have colour variations, including this one which has little blue spots on the lower wings.
