Butterflies - The Speckled Wood

The Speckled Wood, as the name suggests can be found on the edges of woodland areas, often in speckled sunlight. They are one of the earliest butterflies to appear, and can be seen from April, right through into the autumn.


 

Male and female are quite similar, the females just having slightly larger and brighter yellow/cream patches. They are both shown below, but the differences are subtle (the female at the top).
