Mammals - The Stoat

First seen on Friday 26th January 2018 at Croome

Not seen very often at Croome, the Stoat is a similar size to a squirrel. It has a long brown body with creamy white underside. The Weasel is a similar shape and colour, but is smaller, and lacks the dark patch on its tail.

Stoats eat voles, mice, rats, birds and rabbits. In fact this one was found where I normally see rabbits, and it was chasing one at the time (the rabbit got away!). Stoats move very quickly and erratically, twisting and jumping for no apparent reason - great fun to watch.
