Tits, Nuthatches and Tree Creepers - The Treecreeper

First seen on Thursday 3rd March 2016 at Croome

Treecreepers favour trees with a rough bark and can be found almost anywhere on the estate where there are suitable trees. They start at the base of the trunk and work their way up the tree looking for food under the bark. They use their long curved beak to search in the cracks. They work their way round and round the trunk, so will disappear from view for a time. If you see a treecreeper, they will often be in a pose similar these. Look at the size of those claws, for gripping onto the bark.

The photograph below shows how well they blend in, making them difficult to spot. They can be seen on the feeders by the bird hide occasionally, but both of these photographs were taken in the woodland area to the west of the main lake.
