Xylota Sylvarum is quite a common hoverfly, especially in the southern half of the country and is around from May to October. Its distinguishing feature is its golden haired tail. There are two similar species, but this one has partly black hind tibia (the other has all yellow hind tibia). It is found on flowers, but also feeds on leaves collecting pollen and honeydew.
