You will often see Jellyfish washed up on a shore. It's a good time to get a close look, but a bit sad as they are probably dead. This one is called a Lion's Mane Jellyfish and is very common off the west coast of Scotland. This one was identified by the pattern of lines radiating out from a central circle. They get their name from their thick tentacles when afloat. They are the largest jellyfish found in the UK (up to 2 metres across) although this was a very small one (about 30cm). These jellyfish sting!
