Damselflies - The Azure Damselfly

First seen on Thursday 27th May 2021 at Gibside

This damselfly is very similar to the common blue damselfly, but the most obvious difference is the thorax (below the head) is more striped on the azure, whereas the common blue is more solid blue. They are found near water, often in long grass. They are mainly around May to July. The female is totally different colour, mainly white, with a hint of gold. Male and female having different colours is normal in damselflies. The pattern of where the colours are is the same in both though.
