The Black Snail Beetle, also known as the Common Snail Hunter is normally black, but can also be brown, as in this one. As the name suggests, they predate snails, but they are also carrion beetles as they feed on dead birds and mammals - smelling the corpse and flying to feed. They are usually 10-15mm long.
