Mammals - The Brown Hare

First seen on Thursday 27th May 2021 at Gibside

Once common, the Brown Hare is sadly not an easy animal to see these days, and it's a real treat if you see one. Compared to a rabbit, they are bigger, more upright and generally sit with their long, black tipped ears upright - that's sometimes the only bit of a hare you see, sticking up above the grass. Hares have with much longer lags than the rabbit. These photos were taken on the River Walk, two were running around the meadows.
