Finches and Buntings - The Bullfinch

First seen on Wednesday 5th February 2025 at Gibside

The Bullfinch is not a common bird, although they can be spotted now and again in the woodland areas. The male (shown here) is a bright orange-pink colour, and the female is a more subtle brown colour. They both have sharply defined black faces. They love eating seeds and flower buds from trees. They have a low reedy whistle sound, that is reminiscent of a squeaky wheelbarrow being pushed along.
