Bees - The Chocolate Mining Bee

First seen on Thursday 27th May 2021 at Gibside

there are 67 species of Mining Bees in the British Isles, so identification of individuals is not easy. If this one isn't a Chocolate Mining Bee it closely resembles one! They nest by digging holes in the ground (hence their name). They are commonly found in gardens, but also in firm sandy soils near footpaths.
