Dragonflies - The Common Darter

First seen on Wednesday 23rd October 2019 at Gibside

As their name suggests, these are the most common dragonflies you will see, and you will find them just about anywhere, from July to October, a longer period than most dragonflies. Common Darters are relatively small compared to the other species of dragonfly, not much bigger than a damselfly. The one below is the orange-red coloured male. Females are a pale green colour. Common darters can often be found basking on paths, benches and frequently on the tops of bushes.
