Corvids - The Jackdaw

First seen on Wednesday 5th February 2020 at Gibside

Jackdaws are quite noisy birds and you will often hear their metallic 'jack-jack-jack' call as they fly from tree-top to tree-top and argue about who has the best perch. Sometime they will come down to the ground to feed. At first glance, corvids can look similar - Jackdaws are the smallest, and have the characteristic grey hood, and lovely pale blue eyes.

A good place to see Jackdaws is on the ruins of Gibside Hall, where they often perch on the castellations surveying their surroundings.
