Swallow, Swift and Martins - The Swallow

First seen on Sunday 5th June 2022 at Gibside

Swallows can often be seen flying above Gibside, especially around the Stables, where they nest in the various outbuildings. Swallows are easily distinguished from Martins as they have a dark red face and long tail streamers. The males have really long streamers, the females less so, and the juveniles have relatively short tails and a dull red face. The male is shown here.
