Bumblebees - The Tree Bumblebee

First seen on Sunday 5th June 2022 at Gibside

This bumblebee has quite unique colouration - mostly dark, with a bright red-brown area around the head and shoulders and a white tail. As the name suggests, these bumblebees nest in holes in trees. This one was found in the walled garden, but in the wood near the Stables I found this old hole in a tree, with Tree Bumblebees going in and out, presumably to a nest.
