The Black-headed Gull can be seen anywhere, but good places to see them are in the Rocket Field (with the Teal), and on the shoreline (often in flight). They are the smallest of our 4 most common gulls. They are called black-headed gulls, as they have characteristic black heads, but only in the summer. In the winter, their colouring is much more subdued, with just a black spot behind the eye. Their black heads can often look distinctly chocolate coloured. This one's head is a bit of a half-way house between the seasons!
