Finches and Buntings - The Brambling

First seen on Tuesday 2nd November 2021 at Holy Island

The Brambling is a finch and is often found mixing with Chaffinches. You can occasionally think a brightly coloured chaffinch is a Brambling, but when you see then together they are actually very different. The Brambling has much brighter colouring (even more so in the summer). Like chaffinches, they tend to be ground feeders, feeding on fallen seeds under trees or feeders. They are not common, and it's always a treat to see one. They fly in from the continent in the autumn, and Holy Island is often the first land they hit, so there can be a very good passage of birds through the island.
