Pigeons and Pheasants - The Feral Pigeon

First seen on Wednesday 19th February 2020 at Holy Island

Feral Pigeons are the ones you will see in and around town centres. They are descendants of the Rock Dove, but you will only see wild Rock Doves in the north west of Scotland and Ireland. These were found on the castle walls, on the coast so may be a bit closer to true Rock Doves than most found in towns and cities.

They are two distinct shades of grey, with black stripes on their wings. They also have a white rump (the base of their back, top of the tail). The eyes are different to both Stock Doves and Wood Pigeons - Feral Pigeons have orange eyes.
