Guillemots breed on the coast in Northumberland, and are easy to see from rocky shores in the summer. This one was spotted near St Cuthbert's Island feeding a little way offshore. It is in winter plumage, with much more white on its head, and the characteristic dark line down its cheek, as if it's wearing sunglasses. When you see them fly past they fly quite low and fast with quite a rapid wingbeat, often in small flocks.
