Swallow, Swift and Martins - The House Martin

First seen on Wednesday 24th June 2020 at Holy Island

The House Martin is one of the iconic birds of summer. Large numbers build nests below the roofs throughout the village. They fly over the lawns and meadows to catch insects and then fly up to the nests to feed their young. They can sometimes be seen clinging onto the walls of a house. The Sand Martin is similar, but has a dark collar and is more of a brown colour, lacking the House Martin's blue sheen.
