Ducks, Grebes and Coots - The Purple Sandpiper

First seen on Saturday 12th March 2022 at Holy Island

The Purple Sandpiper is so called because the feathers on its back can look purple in a certain light. More characteristically, it has short orange legs, which can be seen from a distance - this one was about 300 yards away! They are a winter visitor and like rocky coasts, especially wave washed rocks. There were three of these in Sandham Bay to the north of the island.
