Auks - The Razorbill

First seen on Monday 26th October 2020 at Holy Island

Razorbills breed on nearby rocky cliffs (eg the Farne Islands), so not usually seen in the harbour. In fact this one appeared briefly from nowhere close to the jetty, then dived and wasn't seen again. It is in its winter plumage, nowhere near as smart as its summer uniform with clean lines and sharp markings. still easy to distinguish from a guillemot, as it has a broad, less pointed bill.
