Short-eared Owls are more common in the winter, when we get more visitors. They tend to hunt in the evenings and early mornings, but can sometimes be spotted roosting on fenceposts during the day. They will hunt on the dunes and in the surrounding farmland at Lindisfarne. They have bright yellow eyes, distinguishing them from the Long-eared Owls, which have orange eyes. On this day there were at least 5 hunting in the fields north of the castle.
