Moths - The Six-spot Burnet Moth

First seen on Thursday 16th July 2020 at Holy Island

These brightly coloured moths can be found in the meadows and dunes in the summer months, behaving very much like a butterfly, flitting from flower to flower. Aptly named, they have six red spots on their black wings. In flight, like most moths, their wings beat very rapidly, so they look more like they are hovering, rather than fluttering. This one was on The Heugh, which seems to be a good place for butterflies and moths.
