Thrushes and Chats - The Stonechat

First seen on Monday 18th November 2019 at Holy Island

The Stonechat can usually be seen in meadows, often near water. They are relatively easy to see, as they tend to perch at the top of small plants, or on fences. Stonechats are so called because they make a chat-chat noise like two stones being hit together. Male and female are quite different, the male (here) having a very dark head and more vibrant colours. This one was found behind the castle, near the lime kilns.
