Flies - The Yellow Dung Fly

First seen on Tuesday 2nd November 2021 at Holy Island

There are around 55 species of Dungflies, this one is probably the Yellow Dungfly (Scathophaga stercoraria). it is common in cattle farming areas. The adult fly is mainly carnivorous and catches smaller insects, but also feeds on nectar. It lays its eggs mainly on cowpats (hence the name).
